Any Way They Come

 

When I was in middle school a close family friend was due to give birth to the first baby I can remember.   I come from a very small family and it was exciting to have a new child on the way.  As the due date approached I remember calling home frequently from the school pay phone and having trouble thinking about anything else.  After the baby was born I often went over to visit the new baby and to help.  Thankfully, no one questioned (out loud) why an adolescent boy would be so excited about birth and I grew up thinking that it was totally "normal".  As an adult I became fascinated with many subjects including self-sufficiency, human health, herbal and other natural healing and education.  Eventually, I taught biology and health for alternative high school students and continued to learn about the human body and it's systems as well as emotional health and other relevant subjects. 

 

A few years ago, a friend wanted to become pregnant and struggled to find birth support that would be open to their unique situation.  The person asked me to be involved and I trained as a doula which reignited my passion for birth but with some new insights.  Bringing a child into a new family is a beautiful and challenging transition. These transitions are often more successful and joyous with the support of a doula.  For various reasons, some families have more trouble finding support than others.  I hope that I add another option to the network of doulas and as a very open-minded person, look forward to working with diverse families.  Please don't hesitate to contact me about your unique plan and if I don't feel that I can support you, I would invite the opportunity to help you find someone who can.
